Invitation to OpenGame Online Event for Ireland

We would like to invite you to join us at the OpenGame project’s national event for Ireland. This online event is for those interested in promoting Open Education, Open Educational Practices (OEPs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) for teaching and learning. More specifically, the event will explore how OEPs can solve problems for educators they encounter in their everyday teaching practices. It will also discuss institutional capacity building for harnessing the potential of Open Education, OEPs and OERs.

About the OpenGame project
The OpenGame project (Promoting Open Education through Gamification) aims to facilitate the uptake of OEPs and OERs among educators in Higher Education through a gamified and authentic situated learning experience. The online game, “Catch the Open!” is based on real-life, open teaching approaches being used by educators in their teaching, learning and assessment.

This engaging online game has been designed and built up from a number of other valuable project outputs: an open educational practices competency framework; a Handbook of Successful Open Educational Practices; and the entire OpenGame Course Curriculum and Content.

Event details
The event will start with an opening keynote by Dr James Brunton from Dublin City University (DCU) on the transformative potential of Open Education Practices (OEPs). An overview of the outputs from the OpenGame project will then follow. Lastly, a panel discussion will discuss ways of getting started with OEPs/OERs to help address some of the real problems and challenges facing today’s educators.

Date: Monday 13th September 2021

Time: 15:00 (Irish time)

Registration: You must register in advance for this event.

Creating a European Open Educational Resources Ecosystem

A team from the NIDL are the DCU partners in an EU Erasmus+ funded project called Encore+: The European Network for Catalysing Open Resources in Education. The Encore+ project aims to create a European network that supports innovation and entrepreneurship with Open Educational Resources (OER).

While current evidence suggests there are pockets of engagement with OER in European academic and business contexts, no integrated European OER university-business ecosystem exists to identify, catalyse and share best practices. The Encore+ project seeks to address this gap in the OER ecosystem by supporting the uptake of OER in business and academia.

Research About Attitudes Towards OERs

We are currently researching attitudes towards OER in higher education and business. We are interested in finding out what motivates people to create and use OER and why they value these activities. We are interested in gathering information about institutional policies, practices and business cases involving OER.  We are seeking participants from two broad cohorts:

  • Higher education
  • Business

How to Participate

We would like to invite you to participate in this valuable research, please take a few minutes to participate in our online survey. You can read more about the survey and respond to the questions through this link…
