Invitation to OpenGame Online Event for Ireland

We would like to invite you to join us at the OpenGame project’s national event for Ireland. This online event is for those interested in promoting Open Education, Open Educational Practices (OEPs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) for teaching and learning. More specifically, the event will explore how OEPs can solve problems for educators they encounter in their everyday teaching practices. It will also discuss institutional capacity building for harnessing the potential of Open Education, OEPs and OERs.

About the OpenGame project
The OpenGame project (Promoting Open Education through Gamification) aims to facilitate the uptake of OEPs and OERs among educators in Higher Education through a gamified and authentic situated learning experience. The online game, “Catch the Open!” is based on real-life, open teaching approaches being used by educators in their teaching, learning and assessment.

This engaging online game has been designed and built up from a number of other valuable project outputs: an open educational practices competency framework; a Handbook of Successful Open Educational Practices; and the entire OpenGame Course Curriculum and Content.

Event details
The event will start with an opening keynote by Dr James Brunton from Dublin City University (DCU) on the transformative potential of Open Education Practices (OEPs). An overview of the outputs from the OpenGame project will then follow. Lastly, a panel discussion will discuss ways of getting started with OEPs/OERs to help address some of the real problems and challenges facing today’s educators.

Date: Monday 13th September 2021

Time: 15:00 (Irish time)

Digi-Culture Project: Closing Workshop

This week the Digi-Culture project has its closing workshop over 3-days in Timisoara, Romania as part of the IAFeS International Conference NETTIES. This hybrid workshop with a mix of online and in-place events is a chance to celebrate the cultural and creative industries that have been hit hard by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Digi-Culture project team sought to help by sharing our experience in online learning and opening the door to future digital innovation in this sector. The reality is that even before the pandemic there was…

“a lack of digital capacity in both the leadership of and processes within the sector” (Bowes et al., 2018).

The workshop will present the 13 free online courses developed within the Digital Culture project. These courses aim at improving the individual digital competences and social inclusion of adults working in creative industries. While they primarily target this sector and include a range of topics ranging digital safety to digital content creation, they are open to everyone. The video below tells you more about how to access the courses.

You can learn more, and register for these and the other courses in the series, on the DigiCulture website.

Spread the word!
